Smoke-Free Multi-Unit Housing

What is smoke-free multi-unit housing?

Smoke-free multi-unit housing refers to residential buildings (apartment complexes, condominiums, or townhomes) where smoking is prohibited in shared or common areas, as well as in individual units. Smoke-free multi-unit housing policies aim to protect residents from secondhand smoke, which can travel between units through ventilation systems, hallways, and other shared spaces. The goal is to create a healthier living environment for all residents by eliminating exposure to tobacco smoke in the building.

Does Marin have smoke-free multi-unit housing policies?

Yes! As of April of 2023, all jurisdictions in Marin have adopted 100% smoke-free multi-unit housing ordinances. The Youth Advocacy Committee now aims to ensure that local residents and property managers are aware and compliant of Marin’s smoke-free policies.
